Give the whole story, not just some of it! Let's be informed .... by Tracy

My latest ax to grind... is with TLC.

Has anyone seen the "Plan B" commercial on The Learning Channel? I saw it on Friday night and here's the complaint I emailed them:

While watching "What Not to Wear" this past Friday, I was extremely disappointed to see an advertisement for "Plan B" (inaccurately referred to as 'emergency contraceptive'). In the commercial, it is stated that Plan B is 'contraceptive' and doesn't harm an existing pregnancy. This is not completely true. Plan B can work as a contraceptive, but it is also believed to function as an abortifacient. Abortifacients DO harm existing fertilized eggs (AKA pregnancies) by making the uterine lining inhospitable to implantation, causing the fertilized egg to pass out of the mother's body. A pregnancy, indeed a new life, is lost in this process. I am disappointed that you would allow such a misleading ad with such incomplete information to run on your network. While the law of our land entitles women to reproductive choices, it is the responsibility of drug manufacturers (and the networks who run their ads) to give women all of the information so that their reproductive choices are based on true, accurate, and complete scientific information. Anything less is irresponsible and morally questionable. Please do not support ads that only provide half of the information, TLC! Lives are at stake here.

Any thoughts, ladies? - Tracy
