14 KIDS!!!
So...the 33yo woman, in Calf., who gave birth to octuplets already has six other children at home (ages 2-7). There is no father identified or involved at this time. According to reports, she lives with her parents. The pregnancy was the result of fertility treatments and "suspected" sperm donation. This raises so many questions and ethical issues. Should sperm donation and/or fertility treatment have been an option? Was the fertility doctor acting irresponsibly? Should she have pursued pregnancy reduction? Is she receiving gov't funds to support the children? What do you think?

I still haven't been able to digest this --- unmarried, 6 kids, no active father, and now 8 and via fertiility??!!
I think this is clearly a prime example of the need to consider medical ethics in practice. I guess there are not really many guildelines for fertility b/c of all the politically incorrect ways it could be applied. As usual, I guess as we all (globally speaking)figure it out -- the kids will suffer.
This can't be fair to any of these young 14 children.
Regarding the children...no good can come of this.
I just read that the mother is now seeking donations via a website. Plus, the news reports she had been receiving food stamps. Didn't she say she wasn't on any assistance? If she was not telling the truth - and she is on assistance, I'm starting to think she is not mentally or emotionally stable. Why would you go national with an untruth that you must know would be uncovered. This will certaintly reduce any public sympathy (or help) for her and her choice. The saddest is that the children will suffer. I can't imagine one woman taking care of 14 children. I would be worried about care and neglect from just the sleep deprivation! Based on recent reports - it appears that the octuplets very own mother is not supportive (she's talked terribly about her daughter on the news). Have I been missing something on this -- or is this case getting even more disturbing??
