Sexting
Is anyone worried about the "sexting" kids are doing with their cellphones? (Sexting is sending a naked picture of self or someone via cellphone.) One young girl who sent a picture of herself to her boyfriend committed suicide when her picture was forwarded around the school. When schools are being made aware of a sexting, they are taking the cellphones, searching for the pics, and calling police if pictures are found on the cellphone. The police are torn by the applicable laws and charging these minors as sexual predators. What do you think? You can go in any direction w/ this - but was the law really meant for 13 year olds?

OK...I think it's completely wrong to charge as "sexual predators". These KIDS aren't yet intellectually equipped to comprehend the long term consequences of taking the pictures, texting them as well as forwarding them and publishing to the web. BY NO MEANS am I making an excuse. I think parental controls need to be placed on the phones BEFORE they are given to kids AND a long hard reality based talk about the harm they can cause. If anything, I would start w/confiscating the phones, reporting the incident to ALL families involved as well as school officials.
This is why I have decided that a phone should be a PHONE for my under-18 set...cameras & texting are just an invitation to trouble. Nobody but a professional photographer nedds to be carrying a camera 24/7, and if you have a phone, why do you need to text?
